This easy DIY fall pumpkin pie garland project is perfect for homesteaders who want to add a touch of autumn decor to their homes.

Plus, crafting is a fun way to spend a rainy fall afternoon when you can’t be out harvesting in your garden or fields.

DIY Fall Pumpkin Pie Garland

As the weather starts to cool and the leaves begin to change color, it’s time to start getting into the fall spirit.

One of the best ways to do this is to decorate your home with seasonal touches.

This garland is sure to get you into an autumn mood.

It is adorable as a fall garland for a mantle.

I’m always looking for easy DIY fall decor for our homestead.

DIY Fall Pumpkin Pie Garland

Supplies:

  • 1 sheet of each: Orange and White Felt
  • 2 sheets of tan felt
  • Bakers twine
  • White yarn
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

Directions:

To make the pom poms

I used a scrap of cardboard for this.

Begin wrapping white yarn around a scrap of cardboard, until you have covered the cardboard about 30 to 40 times.

Tie the yarn in the middle tightly.

Now cut the loops on the opposite sides of the place you tied the middle.

Trim as desired to fluff.

To make the pie slices:

Cut triangle shapes into your orange felt. I cut a variety of sizes to use as much of the sheet as possible.

Now, cut slightly longer triangles from 1 sheet of the tan felt. You want to have about ½” more tan at the top for the crust.

From the scraps, cut thin strips to use for lattice crust.

From the second felt sheet, cut long thin strips.

Begin layering your pie triangles to glue.

You will want to glue from the point of the triangle (the bottom of the slice) and stop gluing about halfway up so the top of the pie is not secured.

To create the crust, I folded up, then down, then back up again, repeating until I reached the end.

I recommend gluing a little with the hot glue gun, then working the crust, adding more glue as you go.

The glue will dry fast, and you don’t want to feel rushed with the crust.

After the crust is finished you are ready to begin attaching the pie to the twine and securing the pie to the crust at the top.

With bakers twine, fold the pie back at the top, where it has not been glued, under the crust.

Lay the twine between the pie and the crust and glue it down.

Leave as much space as you like between slices.

I went for about a 6” space between pie and pom pom.

After the pie is secure along with the garland you can begin to tie or glue your pom-poms in place.

As a final touch, if you would like to make whipped cream dollops, cut a small square of felt and fold the ends so they all touch, add a squirt of hot glue to the center and squeeze.

Glue the white whipped cream dollop into place.

NOTE: it is essential to use a hot glue gun on this project.

White all-purpose glue and glue sticks will not hold felt in place and absorb into the materials.

How do you make a simple garland?

Garlands are a simple way to decorate for the fall season.

All you need is a length of ribbon or string, and some fresh or artificial fall flowers (such as mums or sunflowers), dried leaves, or other greenery.

If you’re using fresh flowers, start by creating a base of greenery.

Then, add on your flowers, spacing them evenly along the length of the garland.

Once you’ve added all of your decorations, tie off the end of the garland and hang it up.

If you’re using artificial flowers, you can simply thread the flowers onto the garland without any additional greenery.

Garland is a great way to add a fall festive touch to any space, and best of all, it’s easy to make yourself!

Here are more fall garland ideas:

Fall is a time for cozy fires, pumpkin spice everything, harvest dinners, and beautiful garlands draped around doorways and mantles.

This year, why not try something a little different with your garland?

We’ve gathered some of our favorite ideas to get you inspired!

From simple berry wreaths to intricate paper chains, there’s something for everyone here.

So gather your supplies and get creative!

If you’re looking for a quick and easy project, try making a berry wreath.

Gather your favorite berries (we used cranberries, but any type would work) and tie them together with a piece of twine or ribbon.

You can either leave it as is or add a few sprigs of greenery for extra color.

If you want something a little more festive, try using paper chains instead of traditional ribbon or string.

This is a great project for kids and can be customized to any color scheme.

If you’re feeling ambitious, why not try making your own garland out of flowers?

This is a great way to use up leftover flowers from other projects or even from your garden.

Simply tie the flowers together with some string or ribbon and you’re done!

If you’re looking for a more rustic look, try using branches as garland.

Gather some branches from your yard or local park and tie them together with some twine.

You can leave them natural or give them a coat of paint to match your decor.

Another great option for a rustic look is to use dried leaves as garland.

Collect some leaves from your yard or local park and tie them together with ribbon or string.

This is a great way to use up those leaves that are starting to turn yellow and brown!

If you’re feeling crafty, why not try making your own garland out of paper?

This is a great project for kids and can be customized to any color scheme.

All you need is some paper, scissors, and glue!

Another fun option for kids is to make a garland out of pompoms.

Gather some colorful yarn and make pompoms in any size you like.

Then simply tie them together with ribbon or string!

If you’re looking for a more traditional garland, try using ribbon or string.

This is a great option if you want something that will last year after year.

Choose your favorite colors and patterns and get creative!

Finally, don’t forget the ever-popular Christmas lights garland! This is a great option if you want something that will light up your home during the dark winter months.

Simply hang some lights along with your doorways or mantles and you’re done!

Final Thoughts

Garland is a great way to add a little bit of festivity to any room and it’s especially perfect for the fall season.

With just a few materials, you can make your own pumpkin pie garland in no time!

If you are looking for DIY fall banners this is one you’ll want to use year after year.

We hope you enjoy this fun DIY project.

Happy fall homesteading!

Making wood projects out of scrap wood can be a full-time hobby if you enjoy woodworking.

With the farmhouse theme being particularly popular, there are many items you can make to add a finishing touch to any room in the house.

Best of all, wood pallets are either free or very inexpensive depending on where you live and the wood is soft and easy to work with.

DIY Projects Made From Wood

If you do not have retail stores with pallets near you, you can search online for places to purchase lots of wood pallets.

Dismantling them is fairly easy if you have the proper tools, but still, you will want to be careful to remove all the nails.

When you pick them up, it is easier to take them apart if this is possible before transporting them.

You can likely throw away any waste and will be able to stack a lot more in your vehicle.

2. Make a DIY Wood Cheese Board – DIY in PDX

  • Making a cheeseboard is not difficult, it’s all about using the right kind of wood.
  • Hardwoods are the best woods to use if you want your cheeseboard to last. Hardwood is less porous and this helps reduce concerns about bacterial contamination.
  • For this project, the best wood choices are walnut, maple, or cherry.  You want to stay away from pine. It may be easy to work with but it is very soft.
  • Many retail cutting boards and cheese boards are now being made out of Bamboo. Bamboo is very hard and has an attractive finish.
  • Once you have selected the piece of wood you will be using and it has been sized to the proper dimensions, the remainder of the project is finishing the surface. This includes sanding and cleaning the board with a tack cloth and then finishing the surface with a safe oil such as mineral or walnut oil. Only oils that are safe to use in the kitchen.
  • Since you cannot use wood stain, make sure you start with the correct color wood. The oil will darken the wood a little.
